14-Reflection

She fell… and found herself in the star field of her mindscape. Immediately she found herself more relaxed, she took a step…

…She was back inside her house, but this time, an observer… she knew the day and time; it was the same afternoon Karl had invaded her sanctuary for the first time. Stang, a tainted blood that was searching for Pyrus, had traveled through the fast ways known as the shadow lands only to find himself ambushed by “the other” whom they supposed to be Karl. They deliberated for a time and then after the Reflected Aysel went to the mirror and peered into its misty depths, the four of them; Protheus, Eorindel, Stang and the Reflection, left the house…

…Aysel moved towards the door and when she opened it and found herself…

…In Pyrus’s lab… she watched things in fast forward, Eorindel, Protheus, Stang and the Reflection entering through the portal, looking about, sitting down and speaking, Eorindel looking into the mirror of dreams and reliving his darkest moments, the three leaving, Stang working hard, researching, writing a letter, sending it… things slow, Artemis, Zeta, Chance, and the Reflection come in, speak with Stang, then they approach the mirror of dreams. It was a rescue attempt, with the use of heavy drugs, the four would enter the mirror in an attempt to save Torin from the self-inflicted prison of his mind. They went into the trance, the dream…

…The planeswalker walks to the body of her reflection and touches her shoulder, remembering what she saw through the mirror of dreams.

Torin’s mindscape was barren, he thought he had failed, and the four had invaded his prison. They were bombarded by images, events and memories that had shaped Torin’s life…and why now he had thought he had failed. Aysel smiled… but he had not failed, and this truth was what set him free. She took her hand from her reflection’s shoulder and as she did…

…She was still in the lab but it was another time, her reflection stood with Stang, Artemis, Maynard, Eorindel and Torin. Artemis was edgy, Karl had invaded his home, tempted his loyalty, and when Artemis stood steadfast, he duplicated himself much as Torin did when he grew angry, but he had it mastered, could do it at will, make several, control them. It was grave news, now it was clear how Karl could walk in the shadows like Pyrus and wield such power, he did not earn it… he stole it when he took them to the pocket plane prison.

The news that Torin bore was not well either, Avene; the strange gray haired elven who radiated with a strange power whom Eorindel had fallen in love with, was captured. The Reflection scryed her… it was confirmed, she was a prisoner of that pocket plane… he would steal her power just as the others.

The question now was how he gained access to the pocket plane in the first case. It was time to turn back to the roots, the Khurnak monks… She had tried to get information from them before, he would not speak much of it. Fortunately enough for the group, Stang had an acquaintance among them, stationed in Oriochi Tao…

…The monk had been much help, the information was valueless, and he told them of the origin of the Khurnak Monks and their relationship with the gods. He told them of how they were not to have any power at all, he told them why Karl was different. The monks protected the forbidden library of the gods, but Karl violated the sacred seal of the library… he read the scrolls of Venca among others, he killed his sister just as she asked him… for the power, and from that day he was no longer golden like the other Khurnak, but a shade of gray… reflecting what he claimed himself to be, The Dark Side of Khurnak. Aysel shuddered slightly, it was a dark thing indeed, yet the monk still agreed to help by researching which volumes Fallen had gotten his “paws” on. Aysel let the scene fade and stood in the star field for a moment, images of her past before she had come to the plane formed about her…she did not care for this conversation of divine blood, it brought up too many thoughts and questions of her own blood she pushed them away and took a step…

…Back in her cottage, the lights were low and the reflection was sitting at the table staring at a piece of parchment. She sighed and went to the mirror, murmuring the muted runes that opened the small pocket plane that contained some of the artifacts and tomes she had come in possession of as she walked the planes. The particular text she took out was written in an ancient form of draconian that she had translated some time ago, the runes on the parchment were another dialect, but they were close enough that she might be able to understand more of the text with the tome. Aysel watched her reflection slave over the text and then copy the parchment and store the tome after altering the draconian numbers that served as part of a code, and then rolled the original parchment…

…Karl would return an hour later to claim the parchment, giving Aysel just enough time to accuse her shadow of treachery… enough to upset her enough to commit her own treachery of a sort, for when she handed him the parchment she slipped in her speech and gave away the fact that Pyrus’s Lab existed. Though this was revealed in the process, it was a small victory, whoever Fallen had gotten to betray her either didn’t know of the lab or had not spoken of it, whoever it was, did not tell all, and that at least would carry her through the guilt in part. Her reflection had run through the door, and the planeswalker followed. She passed through the doorframe…

…They stood just outside of the city boarders. Rumor was rife in town that Eorindel had impregnated Brassy, and this resulted in Torin to be at Eorindel’s throat. Faithlessness was one of the few things that Torin could not tolerate. They were arguing, Artemis and Aysel stood looking on, trying to think of something to say that might ease the tension. It was a difficult thing; Avene was still missing and Brassy had been placed under guard in a safe house because she had tried to abort the child, she would be tried in court after the child was born. The bard and the planeswalker tried to calm the situation, but in the end, the devil just ended up storming off and Eorindel was fuming. They spoke for a few moments… the guardian had wanted Aysel to scry for Brassy… so they went to the alchemy guild to use that mirror…

…The eyes of Meilikki, a mirror that showed the seeker that which cause them the most worry: to Aysel it had shown the pocket plane, the prison where Pyrus was held captive; to Eorindel it had showed him that Avene was safe and out of Karl’s grasp; but to Artemis it had shown the massive construct Fallen was building with the funds given to him by the city…

…Citlatecpatl the Paladin Champion of Pelor had been lingering near the temple to see if she could find some hint of where the Avatar of the sun god had gone… the ground shook and she thought the false priestess had discovered her. The half blood growled as the construct materialized out of the lake… it did not notice her and she followed it into the desert until it cast a web of magic on itself disappearing into the night…

…The Planeswalker took a step back… she had heard of the immensity of the construct but before this time of reflection, she had not seen it, the others were right to worry about it and worry about what might happen to the King when he visited GreenRock now that it was functioning…

…Images swirled about Aysel’s mindscape… Images of Nicodemus the mage, Lindra the Mercenary, Trileon the Ranger, Nesalla the wild elf, Calavel the strange moon elf mage that had the markings of the royal house of her land, Brakern the dwarven cleric of the Keeper of Secrets, Eorindel, Protheus, Citlatecpatl, Torin, his princesses, Stang, Karl, the brownies, Zeta, Artemis, Chance, the Khurnak Monks, The Elves of Arta Alcar Meilikki, IT, the vampires, the dead priests of Pelor, the demons and fiends that had been unleashed, Avene, Pyrus… Aysel did not know which way to go… the images swirled faster… she was lost in her thoughts… and then the star field faded, all went dark…

One lone light began to glow on the empty field… it came towards the planeswalker and materialized. He was tall, his form that of a moon elf, dressed in a robe that glowed the color of the moon, emblazoned with diamond, ruby, citrine, topaz, emerald, sapphire and amethyst… The planeswalker knew him immediately, she had known him her whole life… he had watched her all her life and then he spoke…

Be calm my child…

His voiced eased her and she looked to him, he nodded and smiled, his eyes twinkling with the light of a thousand stars. He took her in his arms and kissed her forehead and then stroked her golden hair for a moment before speaking again.

You have survived more terrible things, do not despair… I am with you Olwana… you know the path as you always have… believe in yourself.

His light dissipated, and the stars of her mindscape came into view, as if a dark cloud had lifted from it… three objects floated around her… the scroll of draconian script, the scale Avene had brought from the planar prison… and the helmet they had retrieved from the depths of the ruins of Kor’Amura… the path was clear and the time was near. Aysel nodded to herself… and opened her eyes….
